Yesterday, OnePlus unveiled the new McLaren edition of its best-selling OnePlus 6T smartphone at ₹ 50,999 in Mumbai. Launching special editions of smartphones has become a trend among the manufacturers. Recently Oppo unveiled its Lamborghini edition of Find X.

Generally, these special editions get enhanced design aesthetics with minimal to no change to the hardware beneath.

But, OnePlus has gone ahead of its rivals by beefing up the RAM and storage as well as replacing the Dash Charging with the new more powerful Wrap Charging.

Build and Design

The physical dimensions of the device remain similar to the standard OnePlus 6T. We get the same 6.41 inch Full HD AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 6 screen protection. The screen has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and sRGB ratio. The screen still has a water-drop notch at the top.

The back however is redesigned by keeping up with the McLaren design pattern. The phone has carbon fiber present beneath the glass and is colored in Papaya Orange. You will also find the McLaren logo at the bottom on the back.

This variant gets a bump in both RAM and storage compared to the standard OnePlus 6T. The phone gets a massive 10 GB of RAM with 256 GB storage with no expandable storage option. The standard OnePlus 6T came in with 8 GB RAM and 128/256 storage options.

The RAM does feel like an overkill even on a flagship device but should handle anything thrown at it with ease.

Other specs remain the same. The smartphone is powered by Snapdragon 845 with Adreno 630 GPU. It comes with Oxygen OS 9.0.5 based on Android Pie out-of-the box. It sports a primary 16 MP Sony IMX519 and a secondary 20 MP Sony IMX376K on the back. A 16 MP selfie camera is present on the front.

The phone gets OnePlus’ new Wrap charging technology which replaces its older Dash Charging. OnePlus claims that you can get a full day’s worth of charge in just 20 minutes. The battery capacity on this phone is 3700 mAh.

In the box you get a 30W Wrap charger with McLaren designed USB-C power cable. There is also a smaller book present specifying the relationship between the two companies.

The phone looks stunning and packs some beefier specs. At this price it should give stiff competition to Oppo’s Find X Lamborghini Edition.
